Ethical Consumer Magazine Challenge – 10 new year pledges

How many of the following have you already done?

  • Boycott Amazon
  • Divest your Bank Account
  • Go Meat-free
  • Switch to a Green Electricity Provider
  • Go Cruelty-Free
  • Plastic- Free Toiletries
  • 30 Wears Clothing Challenge
  • Buy Sustainable Palm Oil, or Boycott altogether
  • Buy Fairtrade Tea and Coffee
  • Go Dairy-free

Full explanations of why we should be doing all these are given in this Ethical Consumer Magazine blog article.

For myself, I’ve been doing most of these things for quite a while, but I only switched to buying solid shampoo bars rather than bottles of shampoo last year, following a suggestion in Ethical Consumer Magazine.  So now I don’t buy any toiletries in plastic bottles any more! (I’ve not solved the toothpaste tube problem yet though!).

And for 2019? There’s just one item on the list that I can’t already tick:  boycott palm oil, so  I’ll try to be more careful about checking ingredients lists and try not to buy products that contain non-sustainable palm oil.

Making it even harder to find vegan biscuits 🙁

But I prefer chocolate anyway 🙂

I use a great toothpaste from a plastic free company based in Cornwall. Also available on ethical superstore. Georganics. Tastes a bit soapy at first but you get used to it. Cleans teeth really well and my little pot has lasted nearly a year!
